it wouldn't have helped. From what I remember cats have an uncanny radar for fresh clean laundry and can jump into the basket in about 2.7 seconds of the basket hitting the ground.
Then there is the amazing increase of weight density that happens when you try to remove said cat.
not to mention the every present risk of blood loss from attempting to pry the cat from clean laundry.
